In Pursuit Of Wild Ambition
Announcing our debut fund, new additions to the team, and our investment in Aarden
🪸 We’re Superorganism, the first VC for startups that benefit biodiversity. Each month we publish thoughts from the frontline, company updates, and a round-up of new happenings in the nature tech world.
Last month we were thrilled to announce the close of our debut fund with $25.9M in commitments, making Superorganism officially the first venture capital fund dedicated entirely to biodiversity.
Over $58 trillion of global GDP depends on nature. Yet for too long, the narrative has been that nature and economic progress must conflict. We reject that premise. The entrepreneurs we back are proving that technology can reshape industries to work better for humans and ecosystems alike.
We’ve already deployed capital into 20 startups that are building solutions across extinction drivers, climate & biodiversity, and enabling technologies – from nature data platforms to ocean robotics to invasive species management. These companies have collectively raised over $100M in follow-on capital.
This wouldn’t be possible without our incredible investors, including AMB Holdings, Builders Vision, Cisco Foundation Regenerative Future Fund, Stray, Understorey Ventures, Wedgetail, and mission-aligned individuals like Jeff Jordan, Sven and Kristin Lindblad, Mark Tercek, and many, many more.
To the founders building at the intersection of nature and technology: this is just the beginning.
“There is not really a roadmap for companies that are building in a nature-positive way. That is part of what we really love - getting our hands dirty and solving those first-of-their-kind challenges.” - Kevin Webb, to AgTechNavigator

Introducing our new investors!
Please join us in welcoming Annie McCluskey and Everett Sanderson!
Annie and Everett are joining to bring us some more firepower on the investment side, and will be out in the world scouting for the best new nature tech companies to join the Superorganism portfolio. If you see them, please say hi!
Annie joins us from National Geographic Society’s Endowment, where she helped build and manage a $1.5B investment platform for one of the world’s most recognizable mission-driven institutions. There, she deployed capital across asset classes and saw firsthand how long-term capital engages with emerging technologies, global systems and conservation efforts.
Annie graduated from Amherst College and began her career in Power & Utilities investment banking at Barclays, advising on energy and infrastructure transactions. She has also worked directly in the field on conservation and community-based initiatives, informing her perspective on where ecological realities and capital markets increasingly intersect. She believes the strongest solutions emerge when investors, scientists, and operators work in concert — a view she brings to her work at Superorganism, supporting investments and ecosystem development across nature tech.
Everett joins us from City Light Capital, where he has led their climate investing strategy for the past three years. After partnering with startups working on problems as diverse as AI for nuclear power plants, stopping lightning strikes on demand, and robotic sustainable farms, he has learned that the most impactful climate startups are the ones whose solutions are also 10x cheaper and 10x better.
Before City Light, he worked in renewable energy investment banking at Nomura Greentech and contributed to biodiversity finance research with The Nature Conservancy and the Paulson Institute. Everett studied environmental science and economics at Cornell with professor John Tobin-de la Puente, and brings with him a deep network of connections spanning startups, investors, and conservationists. He believes the right capital, deployed well, can reshape our relationship with nature.
Please welcome them both on our announcement post here.
Introducing Aarden
Around 60% of the US is privately held land. These owners are constantly making decisions about what to do on their property, and options range widely. For those who work with and invest in land, understanding those options is confusing, and centering environmental data in those choices is paramount for biodiversity.
Aarden helps landowners understand those options. Aarden is an AI-powered tool for land buyers and land-holders to understand a parcel’s risks and strengths, and weigh different uses.
For example, with Aarden, a timber landholder can bring together over 130+ attributes and data sources to understand connectivity, carbon, conservation, mitigation, migration, and recreation values, side by side with any alternate uses they may consider, like renewables.
Biodiversity doesn’t just exist in protected areas – it’s working landscapes, urban areas, degraded lands. Nature-positive uses for land are becoming more accessible, and decision-makers should have the whole view, not just because it’s right environmentally, but because they may be taking on nature-related risks they don’t see until too late.
We met the founders in early 2025: Danan Margason, who has been on the frontlines of climate at Climate Direct, and Ben Hudson, a glacier scientist who also worked on the Zestimate. We’re excited to join an overpowered syndicate including Planeteer Capital, Stepchange Ventures, KDX Management, and more.
